butterflyhug: website design and development

Building durable designs from day one.

This is the site that started it all! I learned most of the skills needed to make websites by experimenting with this site. I first volunteered to make a website for Saint Luke’s Episcopal Church way back in 1999, and after I learned a lot more stuff, we updated to this current design back in 2002. This design still serves the church well, even after adopting the WordPress content management system to make it much easier for other volunteers to add new content to the site.

This current design was intended to emphasize Saint Luke’s commitment to the environment. This commitment is demonstrated in part by the prairie restoration plantings around one of the church parking lots, alluded to in the design, and its more recent pioneering role in developing the Cool Congregations program to help alleviate global climate change, now in use nationwide.
